5. BUDGET PLANNING

Start by making a list of what you require to create your dream garden, this includes plants/trees, ornamental features such as screens, rocks, concrete base, concrete edging, planter boxes, lights, and garden tools, to name a few inclusions.

SAVING TIPS

6. MAINTENANCE

When planning your dream garden, maintenance is a very important consideration. This includes ways to minimize weeds and consider if an automatic watering system important to you.

7. PROTECT CONCRETE FROM ROOT INVASION

Invasive tree roots can damage your foundation, sidewalk, or driveway as well as plumbing. In some instances, this can become an expensive and hazardous problem. To prevent large tree root damage, we suggest:

  • Before planting trees, understand how large the root is likely to grow and ensure you plant trees at a safe distance away from structures.

  • Installing concrete root barriers.

  • Cut the roots.

8. CONCRETE GARDEN DESIGN INCLUSIONS

  • CONCRETE EDGING: Concrete edging creates structure within your landscape design and assists to prevent grass from invading flower beds.

  • CONCRETE PLANTER BOX. Concrete offers good heat insulation. The sun will warm the concrete and the soil inside it, and the concrete will keep the soil at a good, warm temperature, which can be ideal for growing plants that come from warmer climates or ones that have a higher heat requirement. Also, because they last for so long, they are more environmentally friendly than plastic planters, which will degrade over time. Your concrete planter box can also function as a retaining wall, or as a sectional divider.

9. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Before digging, consider utilities such as underground electrical and water pipes to avoid dangerous and unwanted expenses.

  • Success in gardening is all about putting the right plant in the right place at the right time, which is why it’s so important to understand what to plant in your climatic region and the season in which to plant them.

  • Understand the type of soil which is right for your garden. The wrong soil can prevent your plants from getting the moisture and nutrients they need to grow and flourish.
