GARAGE MAKEOVER GUIDE

Updated: Apr 24

1. UNDERSTAND YOUR FOCUS GOAL. To help you plan your makeover, you’ll first need

to know what it is you wish to achieve.

• Perhaps you wish to declutter so you can park your car in the garage, or store your

new boat

• Maybe you wish to add storage space for tools or other household items

• For some, your goal might be to create a more relaxed and organised “man-cave”

• Others might just want to get themselves better organised

2. MAKE A PROJECT TASKS LIST IN ORDER OF PRIORITY

• DECLUTTER. Rid yourself of “junk” and convert any items you no longer need into

cashflow for your makeover.

• FLOORING. Does your concrete floor need a clean, resurfacing, repairing, staining, a

fresh coat of paint or sealant?

• WALLS. Do walls need fixing and painting?

• GARAGE DOOR. Does your garage door need painting, new locks, or an automatic

opener?

• PLAN YOUR LAYOUT. Take measurements, draft layout, plan what you need to buy

including storage options and tools.

3. SPACE SAVER & STORAGE IDEAS

• Foldable workbench

• Does your roof space allow you to utilise attic space?

• Add ceiling hooks as a bike storage option

• Use wall space to organise tools

• Overhead storage shelves and cupboards are great for all types of storage

4. BUDGET PLAN

• Create a shopping list

• Hunt for best price – consider end of sale date and delivery costs

• Do you need to purchase tools to start and finish your project?

5. PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

• Understand which projects are DIY, and which require either a contractor, or a mate to

assist you

• When purchasing flatpack cupboards – try to obtain a copy of the manual to ensure

piecing them together is a practical task for you.
